ALGIERS - Eleven people were killed and 50 were injured in an overnight attack on a village in the Blida region, some 50 kilometers (35 miles) south of Algiers, security services announced Wednesday. Extremists have stepped up operations in recent days, setting off bombs at markets in Algiers and Khemis Miliana Friday and Tuesday which killed at least 25 and injured 70.
On Monday, eight soldiers died in an ambush at Djebabra, in the mountains overlooking Meftah, some 25 kilometers southeast of Algiers, El Watan reported. (AFP)
